Debra passed away September 22, 2016 at Sacred Heart Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Spokane November 1, 1957.
She is survived by (all in Spokane) her husband Richard M. Benson, son Clifford J. Benson, daughter Natalie G. Benson, mother Barbara Jean (Tryon) Rickey, siblings Lori Rickey, Mark (Marna) Rickey, Camille (Edward) Friedrick, Loren Rickey, and Gail Rickey. She was preceded in death by her father, Clifford Loren Rickey. She graduated from Ferris High School, and attended Spokane Falls Community College. She was employed for 27 years at Cowles Co. (Spokesman Review), most recently as Purchasing Agent. After leaving Cowles she cared for her aging mother-in-law (Alzheimer's disease) and father (heart disease) and discovered a passion for elder care. She became a registered Nursing Assistant and dedicated the next chapter of her life to elder care. She was a great wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend to all who knew her. She was a very generous and caring person, helping family and friends in need, adopting stray animals and contributing her talents and energy to professional organizations. She served as a Scoutmaster with Boy Scouts of America and on the boards of local chapters of APICS and Alzheimer's Association (3 term president). She was a continuing inspiration to her family and all who knew her.
A memorial service for Debra will be held at noon on Sunday, November 6th at the Southside Senior & Community Center (3151 E. 27th AVE., Spokane).
